Women and Transitional Justice in Cambodia
The Victims Support Section (VSS) of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), in cooperation with the Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) and the Cambodian Defenders Project (CDP), is implementing a joint project on women and transitional justice in Cambodia – the first non-judicial measures of the ECCC. This film shows the activities and achievements of this project.
Using Forum Theater on Stop Gender-Based Violence
This film shows the use of forum theater as a unique method for truth-telling and awareness-raising on gender-based violence during the Khmer Rouge regime. Forum theater performances are organized by TPO in partnership with CDP and VSS Cambodia in the context of a joint project on women and transitional justice in Cambodia.

Research on Sexual Violence against Ethnic Minorities by the Khmer Rouge
This video introduces a research project undertaken by CDP on sexual violence committed against ethnic minorities under the Khmer Rouge regime. Project Coordinator Duong Savorn and two researchers explain the background, objectives, methodology and target groups of this study.
Film on Women’s Hearing 2013
On 24 September 2013, CDP in partnership with TPO and VSS held the third Women’s Hearing on gender-based violence during conflict. Four survivors of rape and forced marriage during the Khmer Rouge regime testified on their experience before a panel of Cambodian university students. This short film shows the proceedings of the Women’s Hearing with excerpts of the testimonies and statements from the testifiers, student panel members and organizers.
Film on Women’s Hearing 2012
On 10th and 11th October, 2012, CDP in partnership with TPO and VSS organized the second Women’s Hearing under the title “Asia-Pacific Regional Women’s Hearing on Gender-Based Violence in Conflict”. Ten women from four countries – Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nepal and Timor-Leste – publicly testified on their experience before a panel of experts.
This short film captures the voices of the testifiers and guests through interviews and introduces the background of each conflict.
Film on Women’s Hearing 2011
On 7th and 8th December 2011, Cambodian Defenders Project hosted the first Women’s Hearing in Cambodia under the title “True Voices of Women under the Khmer Rouge Regime” during which survivors and witnesses of sexual violence shared their experience with the public and a panel of experts.

Trailer for “Red Wedding”
The documentary “Red Wedding”, a film by Lida Chan and Guillaume Suon, pictures the quest of Pen Sochan, a survivor of forced marriage and rape, to find the truth. It has won four international awards and was produced by acclaimed Cambodian director Rithy Panh.
