CDP welcomes CEDAW recommendations to government on sexual violence during the Khmer Rouge regime

Following the Concluding Observations issued by the Committee to End All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) on 21 October 2013, CDP issued this press release to exress their support for CEDAW’s statements and recommendations on sexual violence during the Khmer Rouge regime. CDP calls on the government to fully comply with the obligations stipulated by CEDAW.

CEDAW issues new General Recommendation on women in and after conflict


On 18 October 2013, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) issued its latest General Recommendation Number 30 which focuses on women in conflict prevention, conflict and post-conflict situations. One section is dedicated to ensuring women’s full engagement during transitional justice processes, including their participation in judicial and non-judicial transitional justice mechanisms and their right to remedy in particular for gender-based violence. These recommendations complement the CEDAW Convention and are binding on all member states.

CEDAW takes up situation in Cambodia

The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is holding its periodic review of Cambodia’s report on 8 October 2013. In the preparation thereof, CEDAW heard issues presented by Cambodian civil society organizations on 7 October 2013 which also addressed gender-based violence during the Khmer Rouge regime. This press release summarizes the dialogue between CEDAW and the Cambodian NGOs.
