CEDAW calls for redress for sexual violence during Khmer Rouge

On 21 October 2013, the Committee to End All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) published their Concluding Observations on the periodic review of Cambodia. In it, the Committee urges the government to provide effective redress to victims of sexual violence committed during the Khmer Rouge regime and develop effective non-judicial transitional justice programmes, including the provision of adequate reparations, psychological and other appropriate support. It also demands the full incorporation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on the impact of armed conflict on women and girls in the domestic National Action Plan to End Violence Against Women.
